Bright Placemats
Lion Brand® Lion® Cotton
GAUGE: With smaller hook, 14 stitches + 16 rows = 4" (10 cm) in sc. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES: Pattern makes four placemats, one in each colorway. | Colorway 1 #146 Fuchsia (A) #147 Purple (B) #148 Turquoise (C) #157 Sunflower (D) | Colorway 2 #157 Sunflower (A) #148 Turquoise (B) #147 Purple (C) #146 Fuchsia (D) | | | Colorway 3 #147 Purple (A) #157 Sunflower (B) #146 Fuchsia (C) #148 Turquoise (D)

| I have made two sets of these placemats (using a skein of bright green from another vendor; all the rest of the yarn is Lionbrand). I have to say it is VERY helpful to make a chart to follow. I just wrote "Rows 1-4," A, Rows 5, B, etc. I used lined paper and wrote the entire pattern. It was so easy to check off the colors as you moved through the pattern. BE SURE TO BLOCK YOUR FINISHED PLACEMATS. I have been steaming them under a pressing cloth, then leaving them on a flat surface to dry. It makes all the difference--brings out the weave and allows you to get them all the same size. Also, I didn't want quite so much fringe, so just used two strands per end stitch. Looks good. (If you sew, add four matching linen napkins. What a super gift!)
