GAUGE:

14 sc = 4 inches [10 cm] BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

APRON:
Ch 69. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across -- 68 sc. Ch 1, turn. Cont in sc for 10 inches. Fasten off.

POCKET:
Ch 61. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across -- 60 sc. Ch 1, turn. Cont in sc for 7 inches. Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Position pocket on the apron 1 inches in from each side edge and even with bottom edge. Sew pocket to apron along side edges of pocket. Mark 2 vertical seams 4 inches in from each side edge of pocket piece to create 3 separate pockets. Work a vertical ch at each pocket marker from bottom edge to top edge.

Edging: With RS facing, join yarn with a sl st at the upper right corner of apron and work 1 row sc along right side edge to next corner, 3 sc in corner, along bottom edge through both pieces to next corner, 3 sc in corner, then along left side edge. Fasten off.

Tie: Ch 5. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across -- 4 sc. Ch 1, turn. Cont in sc for 60 inches. Fasten off. Mark tie 21½ inches in from each end, then invisibly sew tie to upper edge of apron bet the markers leaving 21½ inches on each end free.

Gardener's Apron Reviewed by Elizabeth Ziemba on 2008-08-07 *****
I made 2 of these for Mother's Day gifts and they both came out perfect. Both Mom and MIL loved them and are using them! I used an acrylic yarn so it would wear well and wash easily.
The first one I did in a single color, same as in the picture, and added a yellow flower to the top of the pocket corner.
The second one I did the pocket, outermost sc, and flower in a contrast color. I think I liked the two colored version best.
I came back in to print another copy of the pattern. My Mom wants me to teach her how to make this now! She wants to pass them along as gifts.
