Lion Brand® Jiffy® Thick & Quick®

7 single crochets + 8 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Chain 32. Join with a slip stitch to first chain to form a ring.
Round 1 Chain 1, single crochet in each chain around – 32 single crochets, join with a slip stitch to first stitch. Use a contrasting piece of yarn to mark beginning of the round.
Repeat last round until Hat measures 5 inches from beginning.

Crown Shaping

Round 1 *Work 6 single crochet, (skip 1 stitch, single crochet in next stitch) – decrease made, work 2 single crochet, decrease; repeat from *, ending with 6 single crochet, decrease – 27 single crochet remain.
Round 2 *Work 5 single crochet, 2 decreases; repeat from * around – 21 single crochet remain.
Round 3 *Work 5 single crochet, decrease; repeat from *, ending with 3 single crochet – 18 single crochet remain.
Round 4 *Work 4 single crochet, decrease; repeat from * around – 15 single crochet remain.
Round 5 *Work 1 single crochet, decrease; repeat from * around – 10 single crochet remain.
Round 6 *Decrease; repeat from * around – 5 single crochet remain.
Last Round
Insert hook into each of next 5 single crochet and draw end of yarn through all to close. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Scarf is a loose crochet so gauge is not essential

Chain 8.
Row 1 Double crochet in third chain from hook and in each chain across – 7 double crochet (including beginning chain 2).
Row 2
Chain 2 (counts as 1 double crochet), and turn work. Double crochet in each stitch across – 7 double crochet.

Repeat last row, until yarn is used up, ending with a complete row. Fasten off and weave in ends.
