GAUGE:

Each square measure approximately 8 inches x 8 inches. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Fisherman Sampler Throw Reviewed by S. Modlin on 2008-09-05 ****
I've made this pattern at least half a dozen times in various sizes and color combinations, and each time the results have been really lovely. The directions are clear, except, perhaps, for the lattice overlay on one of the squares. I eventually decided that it looked just fine without the lattice.
