GAUGE:

12 sts = 4 in [10 cm] with size Q-19 hook When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Double-Strand Afghan Reviewed by sharon on 2011-09-21 ***
There are mistakes in this pattern. However it is a Gorgeous afghan! I am an experienced crocheter and let me tell you I had the worst time making this from the directions. Finally I realized that there are a couple of mistakes in the pattern directions, so I made it work on my own. Also, I had to do the center of the afghan with a smaller hook than stated. I used p and n hooks for this afghan. It is gorgeous and I'm so glad I was persistent. Until they fix the pattern I wouldn't recommend trying this unless you are very experienced.
