'Easy Does It' Baby Blanket

GAUGE:

3 sc and 3.5 rows = 1 inches on Size J-10 hook. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

THROW: Wide Strips (make 4): With A, ch 28
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across -- 27 sc. Ch 1, turn. Cont in sc for 9 more rows. Break A. *Join MC. Work even in sc for 30 rows. Break MC. Join A. Work even in sc for 10 rows. Break A. *Rep from * to * 5 times in all. Fasten off.

Jiffy Crochet Baby
Throw - ChartNarrow Strips: Strip #1: With B, ch 10.Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across -- 9 sc. Ch 1, turn. Cont in sc for 9 more rows. Break B. Join A. Work even in sc for 30 rows. Cont strip in sc in foll color sequence: 10 rows D, 30 rows A, 10 rows C, 30 rows A, 10 rows B, 30 rows A, 10 rows D, 30 rows A, 10 rows C. Fasten off.
Strips #2, #3, #4 and #5: Make 4 more strips in sc foll chart for color sequence for each respective strip.
Finishing: Sew strips tog invisibly, alternating the narrow and wide strips foll the assembly diagram.
Border: Join A with a sl st in any corner and work 1 rnd sc, working 3 sc in each corner. Break A.
Rnd 1: Join B with a sl st in corner and ch 1, sc in same corner space, ch 1, *(skip 1 st, sc in next st, ch 1) across to next corner, (sc, ch 1, sc) in corner space; rep from * around, sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (first dc), dc in same corner space, skip 1 st, *(dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, skip next st) across to next corner, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in corner space; rep from * around, sl st in top of beg ch. Break B.
Rnd 3: Join D with sl st in corner, ch 1, *(sc cluster: (3 sc in next dc, drop last loop, insert hook through top of first sc of group, pick up loop and pull through all), ch 1, repeat from * across to next corner, (ch 2, sc cluster, ch 2, sc cluster, chain 2) in corner; rep from * around, end last corner, sl st to first sc. Break D.
Rnd 4: Join B with a sl st in corner, ch 4, *dc in next ch-space, (ch 1, skip next st, dc in ch-space) across to next corner, (3 dc, ch 2,3 dc) in corner space; rep from * around, end last corner with ch 1, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch.
Rnd 5: Ch 3, *sc in first ch of ch-3 for picot, sc in next st, sl st in next st, ch 3; rep from * around, sl st in base of beg ch. Fasten off.

I made this blanket nearly two years ago, and it turned out beautifully. It was larger than I expected when I started, considering it was my second blanket that I've crocheted, but definitely easy to do. I hope others enjoy as much as I did.
