Infant Gratification Polka Dot Baby Blanket

Lion Brand® Homespun® Baby

GAUGE:

9.5 stitches + 5 rows = 4" (10 cm) with larger hook over polka dot pattern. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

MB (make bobble) In next dc (yarn over, draw up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook) 4 times, yarn over with main color and draw through all loops on hook.

NOTES:

Blanket is made in 5 strips comprised of 5 differently colored sections. Strips are sewn together and edged afterwards.

STRIP I – Make 2
Section 1 With larger hook and A as main color, chain 21.
Row 1 (right side) Dc in 4th chain from hook and in each chain across, turn – 19 stitches including turning-chain.
Row 2 (wrong side) Chain 3 – counts as first dc; skip first dc, dc in next 2 dc, changing to B in last loop of last dc, (MB, dc in next 5 dc with A) across, end last repeat dc in last 3 dc, turn. Note B should be carried loosely across work and fastened off at end of Row 2.
Row 3 Chain 3 – counts as first dc, skip first dc, dc across all stitches, catching strand of B in stitches at back off work (this will prevent little toes from getting caught in long strands), turn.
Rows 4 and 5 Dc across all stitches.
Row 6 Repeat Row 2.
Row 7 Repeat Row 3.
Rows 8 and 9 Repeat Rows 4 and 5.
Row 10 Repeat Row 2.
Row 11 Repeat Row 3. Fasten off at left side of section.

Section 2 Attach C at right-hand side of Section 1 with chain 3 – this counts as first dc, dc across remaining 18 stitches. Continue as for Section 1, using C as main color and D for bobbles.
Section 3 Work same as Section 2, using D as main color and A for bobbles.
Section 4 Same as Section 2.
Section 5 Work same as Section 2, using A as main color and B for bobbles.

STRIP II – Make 2
Section 1 With C and D.
Section 2 with A and B.
Section 3 with E and C.
Section 4 with A and B.
Section 5 with C and D.

STRIP III – Make 1
Section 1 with D and A.
Section 2 with E and C.
Section 3 with A and B.
Section 4 with E and C.
Section 5 with D and A.

FINISHING
Sew strips together as follows: I, II, III, II, I.

Edging
With smaller hook, right side facing and B, attach yarn at top right-hand edge dc. Make 3 sc in this corner dc, sc across top of Blanket, ending 3 sc in left-hand corner dc; sc evenly along side of Blanket, make 3 sc in bottom corner, sc across bottom of Blanket, make 3 sc in bottom right-hand corner, sc evenly along remaining side, ending slip stitch to join in top of first sc. Chain 1, turn. Work 1 more round sc with wrong side facing, again making 3 sc in each corner sc and ending slip stitch to join in top of first sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Infant Gratification Polka Dot Baby Blanket Reviewed by sarah king on 2009-09-03 ****
I made this blanket for my daughter. It is really cute, but the dots in each square do not weave in very well due to the yarn type, so I ended up with a lot of holes in this blanket!
