GAUGE:

12 sc + 12 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) with larger hook. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Family of Mittens Reviewed by Ruthann Yeaton on 2012-01-31 *****
I made these with Homespun Candy Apple red. I made an adult pair. It is a very easy pattern to do, and one can do it in a single sitting. The thumb points straight out to the side, which bothered me a lot, and I considered altering it a bit to get rid of this shape. But the recipient of the mittens put it on, and they look great; in fact they look fluffier with that little extra ease at the base of the thumb. I will make these again and again. LOVE this pattern; it's a great way to finish off a half-used skein of Homespun! Can't wait to try a "painterly" color!
