GAUGE: Each completed square measures approximately 11" (28 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES: • Afghan is 4 squares by 5 squares, a total of 20 squares. There are 9 rounds in each square.
• Rounds 2, 4, and 6 – 9 are always worked in Yarn A.
• Make the following amounts in each color combination:
Round 1-B, Round 3-C, Round 5-D – 7 squares

Rnd 2 Join A with sc in any ch2-space. (Ch 3, sc in center dc of 3dc-group, ch 3, sc in ch2-space) 3 times; ch 3, sc in center dc of 3dc-group, ch 3, join with slip st in beg sc. Fasten off A.
Rnd 3 Join new color with slip st in any ch3-space. Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same space, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch3-space, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc in next ch3-space, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch3-space, ch 1) 3 times, join with slip st in top of beg ch3. Fasten off.

Rnd 5 Join new color with slip st in any corner ch3-space. Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same space, ch 1, (3 dc in next ch3-space, ch 1) 3 times, *(3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in corner ch3-space, ch 1, (3 dc in next ch3-space, ch 1) 3 times; repeat from * twice more, join with slip st in top of beg ch3.
