GAUGE: 10 hdc + 7.5 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] with MC on largest hook.
16 sc + 20 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] with A on middle-sized hook.
20 sc + 23 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] with B on smallest hook. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

| Birthday Baby Pocket Cardigan & Hat Reviewed by Davida McMullen on 2009-09-26 |
    |
| I did this hat in 65sts and it fit my 7 year old grandson. If I were to do it in 71 sts. it would fit my husband. This the simplest hat pattern I have ever seen in my life and can do it within an hour. Great for making at the dentist or waiting at music lessons or even in a traffic jam.
