GAUGE:

Collar and Belt 14 sts + 16 rows = 4" [10 cm] in single crochet on largest hook.
Gauntlets 16 sts + 20 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] in single crochet with beading, on largest hook. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

SCB (single crochet bead) Worked on a WS row. Insert hook in next st, yarn over and draw up a loop, slide bead up, hold against back of work, yarn over and complete sc. sc2tog (sc dec) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook. sc3tog (sc dec) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. [Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop] twice. Yarn over, draw through all 4 loops on hook.

NOTES:

For Gauntlets, beads are pre-strung onto yarn, then worked every other sc, in a staggered pattern, on every WS row, attached at the back of stitch. To string beads, slip bead into steel crochet hook, draw end of yarn through hole in bead with hook, sliding bead onto yarn. Repeat until specified number are strung. (Hint String 10 beads, then measure the length of the 10 beads as strung. Use this number to figure the total length of beads to string, rather than counting each individual bead. If 10 beads measure 2" [5 cm], and you need to string 100 beads, you will need 20" [51 cm] worth of beads.)

BELT

With larger hook, ch 131. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 130 sts. Ch 1, turn. Work 2 more rows sc – 3 rows total. Slip st across left edge of Belt at end, slip st across beg ch edge, slip st across right edge of Belt at other end, slip st across top edge of Belt. Fasten off.

Finishing

Fold edge of Belt through loop of buckle; sew securely on WS.

Weave in ends. Sew a bead on RS of center sc row every 4th st, alternating the 2 different kinds of beads. When entire row has been beaded, adjust to fit by folding other side of Belt through belt buckle piece on other side; sew securely on WS.

COLLAR

Neck

With larger hook, ch 51. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 50 sts. Ch 1, turn. Work 2 more rows sc over these sts. Fasten off.

Yoke

With larger hook and RS facing, attach yarn at bottom of neck.

Row 1 Working along beg ch edge, sc in first ch, [sc in next 6 ch, 2 sc in next ch] across – 57 sts. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2 Sc in first sc, [sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc] across – 64 sts. Ch 1, turn.

Row 3 Sc in first sc, [sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc] across – 71 sts. Ch 1, turn.

Row 4 Sc in first sc, [sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc in next sc] across – 78 sts. Ch 1, turn.

Continue in this manner, working 1 more st between increases every row, until there are 22 sts between increases – 169 sts. Work even in sc for 3 rows over these 169 sts.

Buttonband

Change to smaller hook; work even in sc along left edge of yoke for 3 rows. Fasten off.

Buttonhole Band

Work 1 row same as buttonband along right edge of yoke. Mark 4 buttonholes, evenly spaced.

Buttonhole Row Sc to first marker, [ch 2, skip next 2 sc, sc to next marker] across until all markers are worked; sc to end.

On next row, work 2 sc over each ch-2 space. Fasten off.

Finishing

With smaller hook and RS facing, beg at top of Collar, slip st around entire edge of Collar; join with slip st to beg slip st. Fasten off.

Sew buttons on buttonband to correspond to buttonholes.

On Collar neck, sew beads on center RS row, beg at one end of Collar, [sew a bead on a center row st, skip 2 sts, sew a different bead on center row st, skip 2 sts] across Collar to the end, alternating beads throughout.

On Yoke, begin sewing beads BETWEEN first and second rows of Yoke at vertical lines formed by increase points, skipping 2 rows between beads and alternating beads throughout.

Note On model, each vertical row of beads begins with a different bead.

Wear with buttons in back.

GAUNTLET
String 152 (158, 164) beads (see Note). Slide the beads away from the hook as you work, pulling one up when needed.
With larger hook, ch 28 (30, 32); join with slip st in "nub" at back of beg ch to form a ring, being careful not to twist ch. Work Row 1 in the "nub" at back of ch.
Row 1 (RS) Ch 1, sc in 28 (30, 32) ch, slip st in beg sc; turn.
Row 2 (WS) Ch 1, skip slip st, [SCB in next sc, sc in next sc] 14 (15, 16) times, slip st in beg sc; turn.
Row 3 Ch 1, skip slip st, sc in each sc around, slip st in beg sc; turn – 28 (30, 32) sc.
Row 4 Ch 1, skip slip st, [sc in next sc, SCB in next sc] 14 (15, 16) times, slip st in beg sc; turn.
Row 5 Repeat Row 3.
Rows 6-12 Repeat Rows 2-5, then Rows 2-4 once more. Turn.
Shape Triangle
Row 13 Ch 1, skip slip st, sc in next 27 sc; turn, leaving 1 (3, 5) sc unworked.
Row 14 Ch 1, sc in first sc, [SCB in next sc, sc in next sc] 13 times; turn – 13 beads.
Row 15 Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in each sc to last 2 sc, sc2tog; turn – 25 sc.
Row 16 Ch 1, sc2tog, [sc in next sc, SCB in next sc] 10 times, sc in next sc, sc2tog; turn – 23 sc, 10 beads.
Row 17 Repeat Row 15 – 21 sc.
Row 18 Ch 1, sc2tog, [SCB in next sc, sc in next sc] 8 times, SCB in next sc, sc2tog; turn – 19 sc, 9 beads.
Row 19 Repeat Row 15 – 17 sc.
Row 20 Ch 1, sc in first sc, [SCB in next sc, sc in next sc] to end; turn – 8 beads.
Rows 21-34 Work Rows 19-20 for 7 times, ending with 1 bead in last row.
Row 35 Sc3tog; turn.
Loop Ch 9, slip st in beg sc. Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
