Pocket Scarf & Beret

Lion Brand® Chenille Thick & Quick®

6 sc = 4 inches (10 cm) on P hook.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

With larger hook, ch 4, slip st to form ring - 6 sc in ring, place marker for beg of md.
Rnd 1 Inc 1 st in each st - 12 sc.
Rnd 2 *1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around - 18 sc.
Rnd 3 *1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around - 24 sc.
Rnd 4 *1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around - 30 sc.
Rnds 5 - 7 Continue in this way, working 1 sc more between incs each md until there are 48 sts. Work even on 48 sts for 2". Fasten off.
With smaller hook, ch 4.
Row 1 Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across - 3 sc.
Row 2 Ch 1, turn, working through back loops only, sc in each sc. Repeat Row 2 for 21" stretched.
Finishing With RS facing, sew short edges of ribbing together invisibly. With RS facing, sew ribbing to Beret, easing in fullness. Top Knot With larger hook, ch 7 leaving a 3" tail on each end of ch. Break yarn, tie ch into a knot and secure at beg ring.

With larger hook, ch 13. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 12 sc.
Row 1 Ch 1, turn. 1 sc in each sc across. Repeat Row 1 for 76". Fasten off.

Laying scarf flat, fold up 8" on each end to form pockets. Sew sides in place invisibly.

With size 11 needles, cast on 17 sts. Row 1 K 1, *p 1, k 1; rep from *. Repeat Row 1 for 76". Bind off. Finishing Lay scarf flat, fold up 8" on each end to form pockets. Sew sides in place invisibly.

Pocket Scarf & Beret Reviewed by Ute Kidder on 2013-02-18 *****
This review is for the hat only. I absolutely love it. Fantastic pattern, very stylish, easy and fast to make. One suggestion: Instead of sewing the ribbing onto the hat, do a crochet seam with slip stitches (wrong side facing). Looks fabulous.
