Lion Brand® Chenille Thick & Quick® - Homespun®

GAUGE:

8 sc + 10 rows = 4" [10 cm] with MC. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

sc2tog (sc decrease) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.

BAG

FRONT

With MC, ch 3.

Row 1 (RS) Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch; turn – 2 sc.

Rows 2-9 Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc; turn – 18 sc at end of Row 9.

Rows 10-14 Ch 1, sc in each sc across.

RIGHT TOP

Row 15 Ch 1, sc in each of first 9 sc; turn, leaving remaining sts unworked – 9 sc.

Rows 16-18 Ch 1, sc2tog in first 2 sts, sc in each sc across to last 2 sts, sc2tog in last 2 sts; turn – 3 sc at end of Row 18.

Row 19 Ch 1, sc in each sc across. Fasten off.

LEFT TOP

Row 15 With RS facing, join MC in first sc to the left of last st made in Row 15 of Right Top, ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn – 9 sc.

Rows 16-19 Repeat Rows 16-19 of Right Top. Fasten off.

EDGING

Row 1 With RS facing, join 2 strands of CC in lower right corner st of Heart, ch 1, work 27 sc evenly spaced along right side of Heart and around Right Top to center V, work 27 sc evenly spaced around Left Top and down left side of Heart to lower left corner st; turn – 54 sc.

Row 2 Ch 1, sc in each sc across. Fasten off.

BACK

Work as for Front through Edging.

FLAP

Row 1 With RS of Back facing, skip first 13 sc of Edging, join 2 strands of CC in next sc, ch 1, sc in each of next 28 sc; turn – 28 sc.

Row 2 Ch 1, sc in each sc across. Fasten off.

STRAP

With 2 strands of CC held together, ch 60.

Row 1 Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn – 59 sc.

Row 2 Ch 1, sc in each sc across. Fasten off.

Edging Join MC in lower right corner of Strap, ch 1, *work 3 sc in corner st, working across long edge of Strap, sc in each st across to next corner, 3 sc in next corner, sc in short edge of Strap; repeat from * once; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

FINISHING

With WS of Front and Back facing, using large-eyed, blunt needle and MC, sew Front to Back across center bottom edge. With CC, sew Front to Back across row-end sts on bottom edge and across first 13 sts on each side. Turn Bag right side out. Fold Flap down to RS. With CC, sew ends of Flap down to Front of Bag. Without twisting Strap, sew one end of Strap to each side of Flap just above side seam. With sewing needle and thread, sew top half of snap centered on inside edge of Flap. Sew other half of snap to correspond on Front of Bag.

Turned out wonderfully. I added a chain stitch to the flap and a button on the other side for closure. Made 2 diff. colors for Valentines Day for the gran-girls. Worked up fast and easy!! Very nice size for a little girl. Really special...thanks for a great pattern!
