GAUGE: 9 sts = 4" (10 cm) in single crochet. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

SCARF Chain 3. Row 1 Inc in second chain from hook, inc in each chain across; turn – 4 sts. Row 2 Inc, 2 sc, inc; turn work – 6 sts. Row 3 Inc, 4 sc, inc; turn work – 8 sts. Continue in this way, inc in first and last sts, until there are 18 sts. Next Row (RS) Inc, 15 sc, dec; turn work. Next Row (WS) Dec, 15 sc, inc; turn work. Repeat last 2 rows until piece measures 72" from beg, ending with a WS row. Next Row Dec, work to last 2 sts, dec; turn work. Repeat last row until 2 sts remain. Next Row Dec, fasten off. Weave in ends.
