When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES: Join end of each rnd with a slip st. Ch 1 to start next rnd, unless otherwise specified.

| When I was deployed on a hospital ship I made a lot of these little bears while underway, and gave them to patients when we were in port. The kids loved them, and so did the adults! I also used this pattern as a teaching tool for a crochet class to teach everyone how to read patterns, and it worked just great. The men loved making the little bears just as much as the women did!
