15 sc = 4 inches [10 cm] When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Join end of each rnd with a slip st. Ch 1 to start next rnd, unless otherwise specified.

Starting at bottom, ch 2.
Rnd 1 Work 7 sc in second sc from hook.

Rnds 2 - 4 Work sc in each sc around.
Rnd 5 Work 2 sc tog around - 5 sc.
Rnd 6 Work 2 sc tog twice, sc in last sc. Fasten off, leaving an end for sewing. With needle, weave yarn end through remaining sts to close opening and secure.

To make Tiny Teddy a little cuter and chubbier, with needle, run a long thread from bottom of body to top of head and back down through body to bottom. Pull the thread ends to “squash inches teddy to desired chubbiness. Tie a knot with the two ends at bottom of body to secure in place.

Tie ribbon around neck and trim ends - or use scrap yarn to crochet a tiny scarf to keep your teddy warm.

Tiny Teddy Bear Reviewed by Christine Hanstad on 2012-07-11 *****
This guy's just too cute. I've made two as gifts so far using Vanna's Choice in some shade of brown. I think I'm going to try to make a super-mini bear using sock weight yarn and a size C hook.
