Foundation Row 1 (RS): Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across to end of row, ch 1, turn. Foundation Row 2: Sc in each sc across to end of row, ch 1, turn. Pattern Row 1 (pattern is a multiple of 8 sts + 3): Sc in each of first 4 sc, ch 5, * skip next 3 sc, sc in next 5 sc, ch 5; repeat from * across to last 7 sc, skip next 3 sc, sc in last 4 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in first 3 sc, ch 3, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 3, * skip next sc, sc in next 3 sc, ch 3, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 3; repeat from * across to last 4 sc, sc in last 3 sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in first two sc, * ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp, sc in next sc and in ch-3 sp, ch 3, skip next sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * across to last 3 sc, skip next sc, sc in last 2 sc.

Repeat Rows 2-7 until Back measures approx 25 inches from foundation ch. Do not fasten off.

Back Armhole Shaping: Continue working in pattern as established and, AT THE SAME TIME, decrease 1 st at each edge on each row for 20 rows. Decrease by skipping first sc and by leaving last sc unworked while maintaining at least 2 sc edge sts at armhole edge. Continue working even in pattern until piece measures approx 10 inches from beg of armhole. Fasten off.

LEFT FRONT:

Ch 36 (44, 52, 60, 68, 76, 84).

Foundation Rows 1 and 2: Work same as for Back. Work pattern Rows 1 through 7, same as for Back. Repeat pattern Rows 2-7 until Left Front measures approx 25 inches from beg ch.

Left Armhole Shaping: Continue working in pattern and, AT SAME TIME, decrease 1 st at armhole edge on each row for 20 rows.

Left Neck Shaping
Size XP On next row after last row of Armhole shaping, cont in pat and, AT THE SAME TIME, decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row for 16 rows - 7 st left. Fasten off. Sizes P (S) On next row after last row of Armhole Shaping, cont in pat and decrease 1 st at neck edge every row for next 12 (16) rows. On Size P only, work 4 rows even - 11 (15) sts left. Fasten off. Size M Starting on 16th row of Armhole Shaping, cont in pat and AT THE SAME TIME, decrease 1 st at neck edge every row for 21 rows - 18 sts left. Fasten off. Size L Starting on 11th row of Armhole Shaping, cont in pat and, AT THE SAME TIME, decrease 1 st at neck edge every row for 26 rows - 21 st left. Fasten off. Size XL Starting on 6th row of Armhole Shaping, cont in pat and, AT THE SAME TIME, decrease 1 st at neck edge every row for 31 rows - 24 sts left. Fasten off. Size 2X Starting on the same row as Armhole Shaping begins and cont in pat, decrease 1 st at neck edge every row for 36 rows - 27 sts left. Fasten off.
Note In counting stitches left, ch 1 counts as 1 st, ch 3 counts as 2 sts, and ch 5 counts as 3 sts.

RIGHT FRONT:

Work as for Left Front, reversing shaping.

FINISHING:
Sew shoulder seams. When sewing side seams together, begin at the underarm. Leave bottom 1 /3 open for side slit and ease in fitting. With right side facing, fasten on yarn with sl st at center Back neck and work one row sc evenly spaced around entire edge of Vest. At corners, work (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc), continue around, join to first sc with sl st, fasten off. Work one row sc around each armhole in same way.
