GAUGE:

16 sts and 16 rows to 4" in single crochet. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Inc. 1: Work 2 sc in same st.

Reviewed by miranda on 2012-01-08 ****
I made this hat using 2 strands together, one strand Lion Brand Fishermans Wool and one strand homespun using a 6.5mm crochet hook. The warmth and texture made for a fabulous winter hat, but I did have to reduce the overall number of stitches to make it fit (since I was using a larger hook than the pattern called for)

This is a great pattern- I made it several years ago with just Homespun and its origin gauge.

I would love to see this pattern redesigned for different yarn types- e.g. Chunky, dk or cotton, and Homespun.

Thank-you!
