GAUGE:

9 stitches by 12 rows = 4 inches in pattern

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

HAT
Cast on 48 stitches, place marker and join to knit in the round, taking care not to twist stitches.
Rounds 1, 2 & 4: *p2, k2; repeat from *
Round 3: *p2, k2tog but do not drop stitches off left hand needle, knit the first stitch again, then drop both; repeat from *
Repeat Rows 1-4 until the piece measures 7.5 inches in length.
Decrease Crown:
Round 1: *p2, k2tog; repeat from *
Round 2: *p2tog, k1; repeat from *
Round 3: *k2tog; repeat from *

Finishing
Cut working yarn, leaving a 6‐inch tail. Draw the tail through the remaining stitches, cinch closed and secure. Weave in ends.
