GAUGE:

Lacy 26 sts = 4 in. (10 cm)
Rib 18 sts = 4 in. (10 cm)
Plain Jane 28 sts = 4 in. (10 cm)
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

PATTERN STITCHES
LACY
Rnd 1: *K3, p3, rep from * around.
Rnd 2: *K3, yarn over, p3 together, yarn over, rep from * around.
Rep Rnds 1-2 for Lacy Pattern.

RIB
All rounds = K1, p1 around.

PLAIN JANE
Knit every rnd.
Note: You may want to use Garter st worked in the rnd (k 1 rnd, p 1 rnd) for the first 8-10 cuff rnds to prevent the Plain Jane Wrister from rolling. You may also do this when the wrister measures about 6 in. (15 cm) from beg.

NOTES:

Please note that the yarn in this pattern was hand-dyed with Kool-Aid to get the various colors shown. For more information, please refer to Michelle Edwards' illustrated story, Knitting Spring.

This pattern is designed for a snug fit. For a looser fit, please go up a needle size.

WRISTERS
Cast on 36 sts. Divide sts evenly onto 3 needles and join, pm for beginning of rnd. Work in the rnd in pattern st of your choice for 2 in. (5 cm) or desired cuff length.

Shape Gusset
Rnd 1:
Continue in pattern st as established, place marker, m1, k1, m1, place marker, work to end of rnd - 3 sts between markers.
Rnds 2 and 3: Work in pattern st as established to marker, slip marker, work to next marker, slip marker, work to end of rnd.
Rnd 4: Work in pattern st as established to marker, slip marker, m1, work to next marker, m1, slip marker, work to end of rnd.
Rep Rnds 2-4 until there are 17 sts between markers.
Next Rnd: Work in pattern st as established to marker, place 17 sts between markers on holder, cast on 1 stitch and work to end of rnd.
Continue in pattern st as established until piece measures about 2 in. (5 cm) above holder. Bind off.

Thumb
Divide 17 sts from holder evenly onto 3 needles. From right side, join yarn. Pick up and k 4 sts along edge of hand, then k rem sts - 21 sts.
Knit until thumb is desired length, about 1 in. (2.5 cm).
Bind off.

FINISHING
Embroider random French knots and straight sts as desired. Weave in ends.

Knitting Spring Wristers Reviewed by Letty Labatte on 2011-04-13 *****
This is a great pattern--very versatile. Change needle size and/or yarn and you have a new look. For a variety of wrister warmers you only need this one pattern.
