Lion Brand® LB Collection® Silk

22 sts + 32 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) over Rows 1-8, after blocking.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

yo (yarn over)
An increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric, worked as follows:
1. Bring yarn to front, between the needles.
2. Take yarn to back, over the right needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed.

1. Cowl is worked as a rectangle and seamed to make a mobius.
2. We suggest that you wind the yarn into balls by hand, rather than using a ball winder.
3. Work from the 2 balls alternately, working 2 rows with one ball, then 2 rows with the second ball. This blends the unique color differences in the hand-painted yarn.
4. To prevent yarn from becoming tangled, slip balls into separate ziplock bags. Zip bags, leaving an opening just large enough for the strand of yarn to emerge.

Loosely cast on 50 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Knit to last st, p1.
Row 2: Sl 1 knitwise, knit to last st, p1.
Row 3: Sl 1 knitwise, *k1, yo; rep from * to last 2 sts, k1, p1 – 97 sts.
Row 4: Sl 1 knitwise, *k1, drop yo from previous row; rep from * to last 2 sts, k1, p1 – 50 sts.
Rows 5-8: Sl 1 knitwise, knit to last st, p1.
Rep Rows 3-8 until piece measures about 34 in. (86.5 cm).
Bind off loosely.

Soak piece in warm water for about 20 minutes. Lift carefully from water, then roll in a towel to remove excess water.
On a flat, pinnable surface, stretch damp piece to finished measurements and pin in place. Allow to dry, then unpin. Fold piece in half and turn one end of piece to add a half twist to form Mobius. Keeping the twist in place, sew the cast-on edge to the bound off edge.
Weave in ends.
