Lion Brand® Vanna's Tapestry - Vanna's Choice®

11 1/2 sc + 15 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm).
One Rectangle = about 5 1/2 x 9 in. (14 x 23 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

1. 32 Rectangles are worked separately, then sewn tog following a diagram to make Afghan.
2. Each Rectangle is worked in 2 joined sections.
3. An edging is worked around the outside edge of the Afghan.

RECTANGLE (make 32)
First Section

With A, ch 14.
Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 13 sc.
Rows 2-21: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Do not fasten off.
Second Section
Row 22:
Ch 1, do not turn, work 17 sc evenly spaced across side edge of first section – 17 sc.
Rows 23-37: Ch 1, turn, working across the 17 side sc only, sc in each st across.
Fasten off.

Following diagram, sew Rectangles into 4 strips of 8 Rectangles each. Sew strips together to make Afghan.
Rnd 1 (RS):
From RS, join B with an sc anywhere along outside edge of Afghan. Work sc evenly spaced around, working 3 sc in each corner; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2 (WS): Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, dc in each st around, working 3 dc in center sc of each 3-sc corner; join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Rnd 3 (WS): Ch 1, do not turn, sc in each st around, working 3 sc in center dc of each corner 3-dc; join with sl st in first sc.
Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
