Mitered Squares Vest

Lion Brand« Vanna's Choice® - Vanna's Palettes

GAUGE:

1 square = about 3 3/4 x 3 3/4 in. (9.5 x 9.5 cm).
5 V-sts + 8 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

V-st (Dc, ch 1, dc) all in the indicated st.

SPECIAL TECHNIQUE
Adjustable Ring Method

Wrap yarn around index finger. Insert hook into ring on finger, yarn over and draw up a loop. Carefully slip ring from finger and work the stitches of Rnd 1 (in pattern, below) into the ring. When Rnd 1 is complete, gently but firmly, pull tail to tighten center of ring.

NOTES:

1. Vest is worked in one piece from lower edge to armholes. At armholes, the work is separated and Fronts and Back are worked separately to shoulders.
2. Mitered Squares are worked separately, then joined into strips. The strips are sewn to the front opening edges and lower edge of the Vest.
3. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops to complete st.
4. When you see "– 12 sts". in the instructions, this lets you know how many sts you will have at the end of that specific row.
