Jubilee Cowl

Lion Brand« Vanna's Choice® - Vanna's Palettes

GAUGE:

12 hdc = about 4 in. (10 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

NOTES:

1. Cowl is worked in one piece in joined and turned rnds, following Chart to change color.
2. Cowl can be worked by following written instructions or by following the Chart. If working from Chart, read odd number rnds of Chart from right to left and even numbered rnds of Chart from left to right.
3. The color is changed both in the middle of rnds and at the end of rnds to create rnds that are half one color and half another. To change color in the middle of a rnd, work the last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops to complete st. To change color at the end of a rnd, work the joining sl st as follows: Insert hook in top of beg ch, yarn over with new color and draw through all loops to complete the joining sl st. Do not fasten off old color until instructed. Carry unused (old) color(s) on WS of Cowl, ready to pick up when next needed.
4. If you find it difficult to join the beg ch into a ring without twisting the ch, Rnd 1 can be worked as a row, then joined into a rnd, as follows: Leaving a long beg tail, ch 85, hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beg ch counts as first hdc) and in each ch across; join with sl st in top of beg ch – 84 hdc. Use beg tail to sew gap at base of first row closed. Proceed to Rnd 2.
