Earthy Crocheted Hat

Lion Brand® Vanna's Choice® - Vanna's Palettes

GAUGE:

14 sts  = about 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern using larger hook.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

sc4tog (sc 4 sts together) (Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) 4 times, yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook – 3 sts decreased.
hdc2tog (hdc 2 sts together) (Yarn over, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.

NOTES:

1. Hat Band is worked back and forth in rows, then ends are joined to make a ring. Body of Hat is worked in rnds beg along one edge of seamed Band.
2. Colors are changed following a Stripe Sequence.
3. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops to complete st. Fasten off old color.
