Shaded Mosaic Cowl And Hat

Lion Brand® Vanna's Choice® - Vanna's Palettes

GAUGE:

20 sts + 32 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) in Colorwork Pattern with larger needles for Cowl.
19 sts + 22 rnds = about 4 in. (10 cm) in K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds with smaller needles for Hat.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

skp Slip 1 as if to knit, knit 1, pass slip stitch over knit stitch – 1 st decreased.

NOTES:

1. Hat is worked flat in stranded colorwork, then joined to work in rnds.
2. Cowl is worked flat and then seamed to make a ring.
3. When working in Colorwork Pattern, carry unused color(s) along side edge of the piece. Long sides of Cowl will roll naturally to the WS, concealing the carried strands and making a neat edge.

COLORWORK PATTERN (worked over an odd number of sts)
Notes:

1. Three colors are used for each section of the Colorwork Pattern. A is used throughout the pattern, the other 2 colors change following the specific rows below.
2. With yarn in front (wyif) refers to the side of the work facing you as you work the row; with yarn in back (wyib) refers to the side of the work that is away from you as you work the row.
To move yarn from front to back or back to front, bring yarn between needles. Take care not to wrap yarn over a needle, this could create an additional st.
