Daybreak Cowl

Lion Brand® Vanna's Choice® - Vanna's Palettes

16 sts + 24 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Piece is worked back and forth in rows then seamed to make Cowl.

Work *(2 rows with A, 2 rows with C, 2 rows with A, 2 rows with D, 2 rows with A, 2 rows with E) twice, (2 rows with A, 2 rows with F, 2 rows with A, 2 rows with G) twice, (2 rows with A, 2 rows with H, 2 rows with A, 2 rows with I, 2 rows with A, 2 rows with J) twice; rep from * twice more for a total of 192 rows.

Rep Rows 1-12, changing color following Stripe Sequence until piece measures about 9 1/2 in. (24 cm) from beg, end with a WS row as the last row you work.
Place a marker at end of the next RS row.
Continue to rep Rows 1-12 changing color following Stripe Sequence, until all 192 rows of Stripe Sequence have been worked.
Bind off loosely. Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail.

From RS, using the yarn tail, sew the bound-off edge to the side edge of piece between cast-on edge and marker.

Daybreak Cowl Reviewed by Carolyn Beachy on 2015-01-10 ****
I was a little afraid of the different colors in this and the odd cowl. I jumped in and worked on it now and then and suddenly realized I liked the difference and worked hard to finish it. I have worn it with a grey sweater and also with a white blouse. I get complements every time I wear it. Making one now with patch work grey and one with wheat. Of course I picked other Vanna's Palettes to go with them.
