Lion Brand® Vanna's Tapestry

21 sts + 20 rnds = about 4 in. (10 cm) in K1, p1 Twisted rib.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

sk2p (slip-k2tog-pass slipped st over)
A double decrease worked as follows:
1. Insert right needle as if to knit, and slip the next st from the left needle to the right needle.
2. Knit the next 2 sts together.
3. With tip of left needle, lift the slipped st (the 2nd st on right needle) up and over the k2tog (first st on right needle) and off the needle - you have decreased 2 sts.

Twisted Rib worked in rnds (over a multiple of 2 sts)

Rnd 1: *P1, k1 tbl; rep from * around
Rnd 2: *P1, k1; rep from * around.
Rep Rnds 1 and 2 for Twisted Rib worked in rnds.

Hat is worked in the rnd, beg at lower edge.

With circular needle, cast on 96 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd.
Join by working the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Work in Twisted Rib until piece measures about 6 in. (15 cm) from beg, end with Rnd 2 as the last rnd you work.
Shape Crown (top of Hat)
Change to double pointed needles as follows:
Rnd 1: On Needle 1, *(p1, k1 tbl) 12 times; rep from * for Needles 2, 3 and 4.
Rnd 2 (Decrease Rnd): *P1, k1; rep from * to 3 sts before end of needle, sk2p; rep from * around – 88 sts.
Rnd 3: Work in Twisted rib.
Rnds 4-13: Rep Rnds 2 and 3 – 48 sts at the end of Rnd 12.
Rnds 14-17 (Decrease Rnds): Rep Rnd 2 – 16 sts at the end of Rnd 17.
Rnd 18 (Decrease Rnd): *P1, sk2p; rep from * around – 8 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and pull to gather. Knot securely.

Weave in ends.
