Multi Directional Hat

Lion Brand® Landscapes®

GAUGE:

14 sts + 24 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) over Rows 1-8.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop – 1 st increased.
M1P (make 1 st as if to purl) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between the needles and placing it onto left needle. Purl this new stitch through the back loop – 1 st increased.
sk2p Slip 1 as if to knit, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over – 2 sts decreased.

NOTES:

1. Body of Hat is worked in rows then seamed to make a ring. Sts are picked up along long edges for lower edging and top of Hat.
2. When you see ‘– 12 sts’ in the instructions, this lets you know how many sts you will have at the end of that specific row.

Multi Directional Hat Reviewed by Gabrielle Bodell on 2014-09-25 *****
I had fun knitting this hat. The yarn feels very soft and turned out very well. There need to be some corrections made on the pattern for the decreasing on the crown (top of hat). If you decrease 3 sts to one st six times that should be 12 sts decreased. The pattern at the end of the row mentioned that there are only 6 sts decreased for every other row. I only decreased 6 sts every other row until I had 30 sts left and then decreased 12 sts every other row ( like mentioned in the pattern). I hope this makes sense.
