Bobble Beret

Lion Brand® Unique

15 sts + 20 rnds = about 4 in. (10 cm) over Rnds 1-20.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

1. Bring the yarn to front, between the needles.
2. Take yarn to back, over the right needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed.

1. Beret is worked in the round on double pointed needles.
2. When you see '- 12 sts' in the instructions, this lets you know how many sts you will have at the end of that specific row.

Cast on 72 sts. Divide sts onto 4 double pointed needles, with 18 sts on each needle. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Beg with Rnd 1, work in K2, p2 Rib until piece measures about 3 in. (7.5 cm) from beg.
Rnd 1: *K1, yo, skp; rep from * around.
Rnd 2 and all even numbered rnds: Knit.

Bobble Beret Reviewed by Elsie Erickson on 2014-11-27 ***
I knitted this using different yarn and larger needles, and it ended up looking good. However, I had lots of difficulty making the bobbles (tedious & time-consuming), and then after a row of stitches fell off one of the double-pointed needles, I pulled all stitches apart and started over. Next try, I omitted the bobbles completely, and in those rounds simply knitted across. Instead of large-eye blunt needles, I used a crochet hook, no problem. Improvisation paid off.
