Stage Mom Beanie

Lion Brand® Homespun®

12 sc + 12 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

1. Beanie is worked in continuous rounds beginning at top.
2. Sts are worked in the back loops only throughout this pattern.
3. When you see "– 12 sts" in the instructions, this lets you know how many sts you will have at the end of that specific row.

Ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Working in back loops only here and throughout this pattern, 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sc at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around – 18 sc.
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * around – 24 sc.
Rnd 5: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc; rep from * around – 30 sc.
Rnd 6: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc; rep from * around – 36 sc.
Rnd 7: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc; rep from * around – 42 sc.
Rnd 8: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc; rep from * around – 48 sc.
Rnd 9: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 7 sc; rep from * around – 54 sc.
Rnd 10: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 8 sc; rep from * around – 60 sc.
Rnds 11-20: Sc in each sc around.
Rnd 21: Sc in each sc around, join with a sl st in first sc.
Fasten off.

Ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around – 10 sc at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 3: *Sc in next sc, ch 8, skip next sc; rep from * around – 5 ch-8 sps at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 4: *Sc in next sc, 6 sc in ch-8 sp; rep from * around, slip st in first st.
Rnd 5: *Sc in next sc, dc in next 2 sc, 2 tr in each of next 2 sc, dc in next 2 sc; rep from * around, join with a sl st in the first sc.

Stage Mom Beanie Reviewed by Marjorie Ford on 2014-04-20 *****
I love this hat! I made it last night watching tv. I didn't use Homespun but instead used 2 strands held together of Vanna's Choice yarns. Same size hook. One strand was gray/silver, the other was different yarns I wanted to try out (pink, purple, blue, beige, green). lovely hat and reversible (if flower not attached.) Very warm with two strands. I'm going to make more.
