Drawstring Slouch Hat

Lion Brand« Vanna's Choice® - Vanna's Palettes

16 sts + 22 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) over Texture pattern.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

yo (yarn over)
An increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric, worked as follows:
1. Bring yarn to front, between the needles.
2. Take yarn to back, over the right needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed.

With A and beg with Rnd 1, work in Texture pattern for 4 rnds.
With C, continue in Texture pattern for 2 rnds.
Continue in Texture pattern changing color following Stripe Sequence until piece measures about 8 in. (20.5 cm) from beg of Texture pattern, end with a Rnd 4 as the last rnd worked.

Bind off.

Cut a 45 in. (114.5 cm) length of each color yarn for a total of 9 strands. Hold all 9 strands together and tie an overhand knot about 2 in. (5 cm) from one end. Divide strands into 3 groups of 3 strands each and braid the groups for about 35 in. (89 cm). Knot end of braid. Trim ends. Weave Drawstring through eyelets at top of Hat. Pull Drawstring to gather top of Hat and tie ends in a bow.
Weave in ends.
