Flame Stitch Coat

Lion Brand« Homespun®

GAUGE:

9 dc + 5 rows = 4 in. (10 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

NOTES:

1. Coat is worked in 5 pieces: Back, 2 Fronts, and 2 Sleeves.
2. Fronts and Back widen from lower edge towards armholes to create drop armhole shaping.
3. Colors are changed following a Chart. The first time you work the 15 rows of the Chart, Row 1 will be a RS row. Note that on subsequent reps of the Chart, the Chart rows will alternate between RS and WS – so on the second rep of the Chart, Row 1 will be a WS row.
4. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops to complete st. Carry color not in use along top edge of previous row, working new sts over to it to hide.
5. When you see "– 12 sts" in the instructions, this lets you know how many sts you will have at the end of that specific row.

Flame Stitch Coat Reviewed by Joellen Hodge on 2014-04-08 ****
I am working on this right now...but in only one two colors. I have chosen to do brown with gold. I also have only done the crazy zig zag in outline, then gone back to the black. I love the shape of this, but the colors kind of look like Walt Disney threw up. You can do this in any combo you want...
