Rhapsody Of Color Dress

Lion Brand® Amazing®

GAUGE:

16 sts + 22 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) and intarsia colorwork.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

kfb (knit in front and back) Knit next st without removing it from left needle, then k through back of same st – 1 st increased.
pfb (purl into front and back) Purl next st without removing it from left needle, then p through back of same st – 1 st increased.
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog – 1 st decreased.

PATTERN STITCHES

Row 1:
*K2, p2; rep from * to end of row.
Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 for K2, p2 Rib.

Rep Rnd 1 for K2, p2 Rib worked in rnds.

NOTES:

1. Dress is worked in 4 pieces: Front, Back, and 2 Sleeves.
2. Each piece is worked in intarsia, following chart(s) and using a separate ball of yarn for each section of color. The yarn in this design is one with gradual color changes. There are 2 ways to approach the colorwork in this Dress. Either technique will produce an artfully colored dress and neither will match the dress in the photograph exactly. Your choice of method depends on whether you enjoy serendipitous results or prefer to have more control over your colors.

a. Simply use the color yarn indicated on the charts. In some sections of the Dress, this may result in adjoining sections of similar colors.
b. Plan out your color changes by unwinding the balls of yarn until you reach a section of the desired color. Cut the yarn at that point to begin working with your preferred color. Throughout the design, cut and join colors as needed.

3. Follow charts right to left on RS rows and from left to right on WS rows.
4. Do not carry yarn across WS of work, use a separate ball or bobbin for each section of color. Twist yarns on WS to prevent holes.
5. Circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back and forth in rows as if working with straight needles.
