Fitted Cable Pullover

Lion Brand« Vanna's Glamour«

GAUGE:

17 sts + 25 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Rev St st (p on RS, k on WS) with smaller needles and 2 strands of yarn held together.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

kfb (knit in front and back) Knit next st without removing it from left needle, then k through back of same st – 1 st increased.
M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop – 1 st increased.
M1P (make 1 st as if to purl) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between the needles and placing it onto left needle. Purl this new stitch through the back loop – 1 st increased.
pfb (purl into front and back) Purl next st without removing it from left needle, then p through back of same st – 1 st increased.

SPECIAL TECHNIQUES
w&t (wrap and turn):

W&t is a technique used to ensure that a small hole doesn't form at the end of a short row. How you work a w&t depends on whether you are doing a KNIT stitch or a PURL st. Follow the specific instructions below to work a w&tK (a wrap and turn for a KNIT st) or a w&tP (wrap and turn for a PURL st).
w&tK (for KNIT)
1. Bring the yarn between the needles to the front of the work (the front is the side that is facing you). Take care not to wrap the yarn over a needle, this would create a new st.
2. Slip the next st from the left hand needle to the right hand needle as if to purl.
3. Turn the work. After turning, the yarn will be in the back of the work.
4. Bring the yarn between the needles to the front of the work.
5. Slip the first st on left needle as if to purl, back onto right needle. You will now have one stitch on the right needle with a wrap of yarn around the base of the st.
6. Bring the yarn between the needles to the back of the work and continue with the row.
7. When you encounter the wrapped st on the next row, lift the wrap with the tip of your right hand needle and work it tog with the wrapped st.
w&tP (for PURL)
1. Bring the yarn between the needles to the back of the work (the back is the side that is facing away from you). Take care not to wrap the yarn over a needle, this would create a new st.
2. Slip the next st from the left hand needle to the right hand needle as if to purl.
3. Turn work. After turning, the yarn will be in the front of the work.
4. Bring the yarn between the needles to the back of the work.
5. Slip the first st on left needle as if to purl, back onto right needle. You will now have one stitch on the right needle with a wrap of yarn around the base of the st.
6. Bring the yarn between the needles to the front of the work and continue with the row.
7. When you encounter the wrapped st on the next row, lift the wrap with the tip of your right hand needle and work it tog with the wrapped st.

Rep Rnd 1 for K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds.

NOTES:

1. Pullover is worked in 4 pieces, Back, Front, and 2 Sleeves and with 2 strands of yarn held tog.
2. In this design, several shaping techniques will be worked AT THE SAME TIME. Read through all directions before beg and keep careful track of your rows.
3. Cable panels are worked by dividing cable sts in half and working each half separately with separate balls of yarn. Sts are increased and decreased on either side of Cable Panel sts to keep Cable Panel flat. Cable Panel sts are reversed to create the cable twist.
4. On Back and Front, you will be working a cable on the center sts between markers. The number of sts between the markers will inc and dec to shape the cable. The sts outside the markers will inc and dec to shape both the cable and the sides.
5. Front neck shaping is worked in short rows.
6. Collar is worked in the round on double pointed needles with sts picked up around Pullover neck.
7. End with a WS row means that the last row you work should be a WS row, and the next row that you are ready to work will be a RS row.
8. When you see "– 12 sts". in the instructions, this lets you know how many sts you will have at the end of that specific row.
