GAUGE:

One Square = 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 in. (16.5 x 16.5 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

NOTES:

1. Afghan is made from 63 Squares sewed together following an Assembly Diagram.
2. Edging is worked around entire outside edge of completed Afghan.

Young At Heart Granny Afghan Reviewed by Jane Cheek on 2014-07-11 ***
I am still working on all the parts, but have found that beginning with square 13 to the end, the instructions tell you to have 72 stitches all around - all the previous squares end with 64. To modify squares 13 - 18, I have eliminated Row 5 altogether, and done a double crochet in all stitches with 5 dc in each corner - gets me 64. I'm guessing the same modification needs to be done with Squares 20 - 14. Love the final look of this afghan, but it's been more challenging than it should have been.
