GAUGE:

16 sts + 26 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) in Sl St Patterns.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

1. Afghan is made from 5 Strips. Each Strip is worked in 6 different slip stitch patterns.
2. Each slip stitch pattern uses 2 colors of yarn, working 2 rows with each color. Do not cut yarn between color changes, carry unused color along side edge of work.
3. The directions for each Strip will specify which color to use in each section. The colors have all been chosen to coordinate with each other-if you work a row or two with the 'wrong' color, don't worry! Your Afghan will still be beautiful.
4. Circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts picked up along each side of the Strips. Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
5. With yarn in front (wyif) and with yarn in back (wyib) refer to the side of the work as it faces you.
