GAUGE:

Square 1 = 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 in. (8.5 x 8.5 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

NOTES:

1. 6 Squares are made, then sewed together to make a ring.
2. Top of Hat is worked around top of joined Squares.
3. The color is changed on every round of each Square. Change color by fastening off old color and drawing up a loop of new color in a corner ch-2 space.

Sparkly Granny Cap Reviewed by on 2014-04-13 ****
I saw this pattern when LionBrand shared it on Facebook. I went to the store the very next day and bought the yarn so I could get started crocheting right away. It worked up quickly, had it done in two days.
My only complaint is the yarn itself. It is beautiful, absolutely gorgeous, however, it will not tie off. After every color change, when I finish off work, I double or triple knot it to secure the yarn. The day after I made the hat, I kept finding parts of my granny squares unraveling. For the life of me I could not figure out why. Last night as I was starting a second hat, I realized the yarn was coming untied. Extremely tight knots overnight are coming lose so that just by moving the hat around a bit, they are coming untied.
This was how I was taught to finish off work, however, it will not work with this yarn. I'm looking for alternate ways to finish off now. So all in all, an absolutely BEAUTIFUL hat - however - do not count on tying knots to secure your work! That is the only reason I am not giving this pattern a 5 star review. I've now spent more time "fixing" the hat than I did crocheting it.
