Lion Brand« Vanna's Choice®

GAUGE:

16 sts + 22 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with size 9 (5.5 mm) needles.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

kfb (knit in front and back) Knit next st without removing it from left needle, then k through back of same st – 1 st increased.
pfb (purl in front and back) Purl next st without removing it from left needle, then p through back of same st – 1 st increased.
skp Slip 1 as if to knit, knit 1, pass slip stitch over knit stitch – 1 st decreased.

SPECIAL TECHNIQUES
3-Needle Bind Off
With RS together, hold in one hand 2 needles with equal number of sts on each. With 3rd needle, knit tog 1 st from each needle, *knit tog 1 st from each needle, pass first st worked over 2nd to bind off, repeat from * across. Cut working yarn and pull through last st to secure.
Sloped Bind Off
Sloped Bind Off is worked over 2 rows.
1. On the row previous to the bind-off row, sl the last st (wyif on WS, wyib on RS).
2. On bind off row, sl the first st (wyif on WS, wyib on RS), k next st, pass sl st over st just knit, k next st, bind off rem sts as usual.

NOTES:

1. Vest is made in one piece beginning with the Back. Stitches are picked up along sides of Back to work fronts.
2. Vest is designed to be oversized with fronts longer than back.
3. Pieces are worked back and forth in rows. Circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches. Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
