GAUGE:

16 sts + 22 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

FINISHING
Fold cast on end of Bag to WS along turning ridge. Sew cast on edge to WS of Bag to create a casing for drawstring. Rep with bound off end of Bag.
Fold Bag in half and seam sides, matching stripes and stopping just below casing.
Drawstring
For Small Bag, cut 3 strands of B, each about 86 in. (218.5 cm) long. Hold strands tog and fold in half. Knot strands together just below fold. Divide strands into 3 groups of 2 strands each and braid until about 2 in. (5 cm) of yarn remains. Pin safety pin to the fold at beginning of drawstring. Thread pin through casings on both sides of Bag. Knot ends of drawstring together. Trim ends if needed.
Remove safety pin.
For Large Bag, cut 3 strands of B, each 96 in. (244 cm) long. Make drawstring same as for Small Bag.
