13 sc + 14 rnds = about 4 in. (10 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

1. Wristers are worked in joined rnds, do not turn at beg of rnd.
2. If you find it difficult to join the beg ch into a ring without twisting the ch, Rnd 1 can be worked as a row, then joined into a rnd, as follows: Leaving a long beg tail, ch 27, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; join with sl st in first sc - 26 sc at the end of this row. Use beg tail to sew gap at base of first row closed, then proceed to Rnd 2.

WRISTER (make 2)
Ch 26.
Taking care not to twist ch; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around; join with sl st in first sc - 26 sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc.
Rep Rnd 2 until piece measures about 5 1/2 in. (14 cm) from beg.
Thumb opening
Next Rnd:
Ch 1, sc in first st, sl st in next 4 sts, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc.
Next Rnd: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 4, skip next 4 sl sts, sc in next st and in each st around; join with sl st in first sc.
Next Rnd: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next 4 ch and each st around; join with sl st in first st.
Next Rnd: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc.
Rep last rnd until piece measures about 7 1/2 in. (19 cm) from beg. Fasten off.

Simple Wristers Reviewed by Judi Seibert on 2015-03-12 ***
I made these wristers and
wore them about five days
and the yarn just didn't hold
up, yarn is lovely but I was
disappointed the way it started to look like a fuzzy yarn around the thumb and knuckles. I will try a
different yarn next time they got a litle scratchy wearing
more than an hour. The pattern
is nice to warm your wrists
if you have arthritis.
