Image of Knotted Necklace

Using only one ball of yarn, making this necklace is a breeze—all you need to know is how to braid and how to make a knot.  While you're at it, you could also make a matching bracelet.

Knotted Necklace

Lion Brand« Martha Stewart CraftsTM/MC Glitter Ribbon

GAUGE:

Exact gauge is not essential to this project.

NECKLACE
Cut 9 strands of yarn each about 80 in. (203 cm) long. Hold all 9 strands together, fold in half, then tie into an overhand knot about 1 in. (2.5 cm) below the fold to form a small loop.
Divide strands into 3 groups of 6 strands each and braid for about 3 in. (7.5 cm). Tie a loose knot at end of braid. Cut four 4 in. (10 cm) long strands of yarn and set aside. Divide yarn strands below braid into 3 groups of 6 strands each. Working with one group at a time, divide strands into 3 groups of 2 strands each. Braid each group separately for about 10 in. (25.5 cm). Tie a 4 in. (10 cm) strand around the end of each braid.
Loosely twist the 3 braids around one another. Wrap last 4 in. (10 cm) strand around ends of all 3 braids and knot to secure. Do not trim ends.

FINISHING
Cut a 4 in. (10 cm) long strand of yarn and set aside. Fold 9 of the loose strands at the end of the braids over about 1 in. (2.5 cm) from end of braid to form a loop. Wrap the 4 in. (10 cm) strand of yarn around the base of the loop and knot to secure.
Thread remaining yarn ends (3-4 at a time) into blunt needle and draw under yarn wraps to hide.
Cut a 30 in. (76 cm) long strand of yarn and thread into blunt needle. Wrap tightly around yarn wraps just made to hide all knots and ends.

Tie
Cut a 54 in. (137 cm) long strand of yarn and thread it through loops at both ends of Necklace. Try Necklace on and adjust tie to desired length. Knot ends of tie and slip knot to inside of loop on one end of Necklace.
