Village Square Afghan

Lion Brand® Homespun®

GAUGE:

10 sc + 10 rows = 4 in. (10 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) (Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.

NOTES:

1. Afghan is worked in entrelac crochet.
2. Entrelac crochet is worked in Rows of Blocks and Triangles. Each Block or Triangle is worked over only a portion of the foundation ch or over only one or two edges of the previous row of Blocks or Triangles.
3. Eight Rows of Blocks are worked then a Row of Triangles is worked across the top of the last row to create an even edge.
4. Two solid color sections are worked in single crochet across the Row of Triangles to complete the Afghan.
5. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete the st. Fasten off old color.
