Fox Scoodie with Pockets

Lion Brand® Wool-Ease®

GAUGE:

18 sts + 36 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row).

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to match the gauge, try using a smaller size needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

kfb (knit in front and back) Knit next st without removing it from left needle, then k through back of same st – 1 st increased.

sk2p (slip-k2tog-pass slipped st over)
A double decrease worked as follows:
1. Insert right needle as if to knit, and slip the next st from the left needle to the right needle.
2. Knit the next 2 sts together.
3. With tip of left needle, lift the slipped st (the 2nd st on right needle) up and over the k2tog (first st on right needle) and off the needle – you have decreased 2 sts.

ssk (slip, slip, knit)  Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog – 1 st decreased.

NOTES:

  1. Scoodie is worked in two halves. The halves are joined, then the Hood is worked across one edge.
  2. Top of Hood is shaped using short rows. Short rows are rows that are worked over a portion of the sts in a row, leaving the rem sts unworked. To work short rows, the pattern instructions will tell you to ‘turn’ before you reach the end of the row.
  3. Pockets are worked in the rnd on double-pointed needles. Scarf is worked back and forth in rows on straight needles.
  4. Inner and Outer Ears are worked separately with 2 strands of yarn held tog. When you have finished working the edging on the Hood, wind remaining A, B and C into 2 separate balls.

FIRST HALF

Pocket
With double pointed needles and A, cast on 8 sts. Divide sts onto 4 needles. placing 2 sts onto each needle. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Rnd 1 (RS):
(K1, yo, k1) 4 times – 12 sts at the end of this rnd (3 sts on each needle).
Rnd 2:
K1, yo, k to end of first needle; k to last st on 2nd needle, yo, k1; k1, yo, k to end of 3rd needle; k to last st on 4th needle, yo, k1 – 16 sts at the end of this rnd (4 sts on each needle).
Rnds 3-8:
Rep last rnd 6 times – 40 sts at the end of Rnd 8 (10 sts on each needle).
Work in St st worked in rnds (k every rnd) until piece measures 5 (6) in. (12.5 (15 cm)) from beg.
Work in Garter st worked in rnds (k 1 rnd, p 1 rnd) for 6 rnds.
Bind off 20 sts – 20 sts rem. Cut A.

Scarf
Change to straight needles to work back and forth in rows over the rem 20 sts.
Join B.
Row 1:
(Kfb) twice, k16, (kfb) twice – 24 sts at the end of this row.
Row 2:
Sl 1, p2, k to last 3 sts, p3.

Make a second half same as First. Hold halves together, matching sts of last row and with both Pockets facing inwards. Sew bound off edges together.

Side
Row 1:

From RS, and beg at center seam, sk ends of 26 (30) rows to the right of the center seam, with straight needles and B pick up and k1 st in the end of the next row, pick up and k1 st in the end of the next 19 (21) rows, (yo, pick up and k1 st in end of next row) 15 (19) times (skipping center seam), pick up and k1 st in the end of the next 19 (21) rows – 69 (81) sts at the end of this row.
Row 2:
Sl 1, p2, k to last 3 sts, p3.
Rep Row 2 until side of Hood measures 6 (7) in. (15 (18) cm), end with a WS row. Note: End with a WS row means that the last row you work should be a WS row, and the next row that you are ready to work will be a RS row.
