FIRST HALF
Pocket
With A, ch 3.
Rnd 1 (RS): Work 5 hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beg ch counts as first hdc); join with sl st in top of beg ch – 6 hdc at the end of this rnd. Place a marker to indicate beg of rnd. Move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc here and in all following rnds), hdc in same st as join, 2 hdc in each hdc around; join with sl st in top of beg ch – 12 hdc.
Rnd 3: Ch 2, hdc in same st as join, hdc in next hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next hdc; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch – 18 hdc.
Rnd 4: Ch 2, hdc in same st as join, hdc in next 2 hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 2 hdc; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch – 24 hdc.
Rnd 5: Ch 2, hdc in same st as join, hdc in next 3 hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 3 hdc; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch – 30 hdc.
Rnd 6: Ch 2, hdc in each hdc around; join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Rep Rnd 6 until piece measures 5 (6) in. (12.5 (15) cm) from beg. Fasten off.
Scarf
From RS, join B with a sl st in same st as join of Pocket Rnd 6.
Row 1: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), (sk next st, V-st in next st) 7 times, sk next st, hdc in next st; leave rem sts unworked – 7 V-sts at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, V-st in ch-1 sp of each V-st across, hdc in top of beg ch.
Rep Row 2 until piece, including Pocket, measures 24 (28) in. (61 (71) cm). Fasten off.
Make a Second Half same as First, but do not fasten off after last row. Hold halves together, matching sts of last row and with both Pockets facing inwards. Working through both thicknesses, sl st across to join halves. Fasten off.
Hood
Side
Lay Scarf flat with Pocket openings facing you. From RS and beg at center join, sk 10 (12) rows to the right of the center join (to the left, if you are left-handed), join B with sl st in end of next row.
Row 1: Working in ends of rows and working towards center join, ch 2, V-st in end of next 10 (12) rows, sk center seam, V-st in end of next 10 (12) rows, hdc in end of next row – 20 (24) V-sts at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, V-st in ch-1 sp of each V-st across, hdc in top of beg ch.
Rep Row 2 until side of Hood measures 6 (7) in. (15 (18) cm). Fasten off.
Top
Sk first 7 (8) V-sts of last row, join B with sl st in ch-1 sp of next V-st.
Next Row: Ch 2, V-st in ch-1 sp of next 4 (6) V-sts, hdc in ch-1 sp of next V-st; leave rem sts unworked.
Next Row: Ch 2, turn, V-st in ch-1 sp of each V-st across, hdc in top of beg ch.
Rep last row until Top measures about 6 (7) in. 15 (18 cm) long. Fasten off.
Outer Ear (make 2)
With A, ch 3.
Row 1: Work 3 hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beg ch counts as first hdc) – 4 hdc at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, hdc in first hdc (increase made), hdc in next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in last hdc – 6 hdc.
Rows 3-5: Ch 2, turn, hdc in first hdc (increase made), hdc in each hdc to last hdc, 2 hdc in last hdc – 12 hdc at the end of Row 5. Change to B.
Rows 6-9: Rep Row 3 four times – 20 hdc at the end of Row 9.
Fasten off.
Inner Ear (make 2)
With C, ch 3.
With C, work Rows 1-8 of Outer Ear – 18 hdc at the end of Row 8. Fasten off.
Small Paw Pads (make 6)
With C, ch 3.
Rnd 1: Work 8 hdc in 3rd ch from hook; join with sl st in top of beg ch to make a small circle. Fasten off.
Large Paw Pads (make 2)
With C, ch 3.
Rnd 1: Work 8 hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beg ch counts as first hdc); join with sl st in top of beg ch – 9 hdc at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in each of next 5 sts, hdc in last 2 sts; join with sl st in top of beg ch to make a circle.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
Sew sides of hood to top of hood.
Hood Edging
From RS, join B with a sl st in front lower ‘corner’ of hood.
Row 1: Ch 1, work sc evenly spaced across front edge of hood.
Row 2: Turn, sl st in each st across. Fasten off.
Sew 3 Small and 1 Large Paw Pads to each Pocket. Sew Inner Ear to Outer Ear. Sew Ears to hood. Weave in ends. |
