Silky Cowl

Lion Brand® Silky Twist

8 1/2 sc + 10 rows = 4 in. (10 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

1. Cowl is worked back and forth in rows, changing color every 8 in. (20.5 cm). The finished Cowl has 3 A stripes and 3 B stripes.
2. To change color when working in rows, work last st of old color to last yarn over, yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete the st.

With A, ch 22.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 21 sc at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures about 8 in. (20.5 cm) from beg. Change to B in last st of last row. Cut A.
With B, rep Row 2 for about 8 in. (20.5 cm). Cowl should measure about 16 in. (40.5 cm) from beg. Change to A in last st of last row. Cut B.
Continue to rep Row 2, working 8 in. (20.5 cm) stripes in A and then B, alternately, until you have worked a total of 3 stripes of each. Cowl should measure about 48 in. (122 cm) from beg. Do not change color in last st. Fasten off B.

Sew short ends together. Weave in ends.

Silky Cowl Reviewed by Jean Sparks on 2013-12-16 *****
I have just learned to crochet and this was my first real project. It was easy to follow and came out beautifully using a bulky weight yarn. I have received many compliments already.
