GAUGE:

8 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) with 2 strands of yarn held tog.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

NOTES:

Cowl is worked with 2 strands of yarn held together. Roll one ball of yarn into 2 separate balls before beginning.

COWL
Holding 2 strands of yarn tog, cast on 48 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts. Move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Work in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) until piece measures about 11 in. (28 cm) from beg.
Bind off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.

Slouchy Cowl Reviewed by Lore Gayo on 2014-10-16 *****
I did this in Black. Instead of doubling this yarn I used a single strand of the Romance and a single strand of a very thin wool yarn that I have (like you would see in a St. John's knit garment) to give it support, and I used only 3 balls because as soon as I had enough to pull it through the head I stopped.
Also, soon as I finished a row, I would use the empty needle to pick and groom the knitting by "pulling" out the "hairs" gently- It really fluffed up the knitted piece. Everybody that has seen it think it's fur!
