Blended Scarf

Lion Brand® Vanna's Choice®

9 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

1. Scarf is worked with 2 strands of yarn held tog to create a 2 color combination.
2. The color combination is changed every 6 in. (15 cm). One strand of the old combination is cut and one strand of another color is picked up to create a new color combination.
3. Change color in the last st of a row. Work last st of old color combination to last yarn over. Drop indicated strand of old color and pick up one strand of new color. Yarn over with new color combination and draw through all loops on hook to complete st. Cut the strand of old color. Leave long ending and beg tails to weave in later. If desired, crochet over yarn tails as you work to save having to weave them in at the end.
4. The ch-2 at the beg of every row is a turning ch and does not count as a st.

Work 6 in. (15 cm) stripes with each of the following color combinations: *with 1 strand each of A and B held tog, 1 strand each of B and C held tog, 1 strand each of C and D held tog, 1 strand each of D and A held tog; rep from * for Stripe Sequence.

With 1 strand each of A and B held tog, ch 22.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across - 20 hdc at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures about 6 in. (15 cm) from beg.
Change A to C.
With 1 strand each of B and C held tog, rep Row 2 until B/C stripe measures 6 in. (15 cm).
Change B to D.
With 1 strand each of C and D held tog, rep Row 2 until C/D stripe measures 6 in. (15 cm).
Change C to A.
With 1 strand each of D and A held tog, rep Row 2 until D/A stripe measures 6 in. (15 cm).
Rep Row 2 continuing to change color every 6 in. (15 cm) following Stripe Sequence until piece measures about 72 in. (183 cm) from beg.
Fasten off.

Weave in ends.

Blended Scarf Reviewed by Tomi Schwindler on 2014-01-06 *****
I made this scarf for my daughter using the four colors suggested and it turned out beautiful. She was so impressed with the combination that I am going to do afghan for her.The directions were easy to follow and it did not take any time to complete.
