GAUGE:
17.5 stitches x 24 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) over Rows 5 and 6 of pattern.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES:
1. The pattern makes 3 Blocks. For each Block, a rectangle is worked to cover 4 sides of the foam block, then 2 squares are worked to cover the remaining sides of the foam block. 2. Flowers are embroidered following photo or as desired.
BLOCKS (set of 3) Rectangle for Sides (make 3) With A, cast on 25 stitches. *Rows 1-4: Knit. Row 5 (wrong side): Knit 3, purl 19, knit 3. Row 6: Knit. Repeat Rows 5 and 6 until piece measures about 5 1/2 in. (14 cm) from beginning, end by working a wrong side row. Knit 3 rows. Repeat from * 3 more times. Knit 1 row. Bind off.
Top and Bottom Squares (make 6, 2 for each Block) With A, cast on 25 stitches. Knit 4 rows. Repeat Rows 5 and 6 of Rectangle until piece measures about 5 1/2 in. (14 cm) from beginning, end by working a wrong side row. Knit 4 rows. Bind off.
FINISHING Embroidery Note: Embroidery is worked with B, using yarn colors from the pack.
Flowers Following photo, or working freehand, with B in desired color(s), embroider flowers as follows: · With 2 strands of B, embroider a cluster of French knots for flower center. · With 1 or 2 strands of B, embroider flower petals with Lazy Daisy stitch around flower center. · If desired, work a second round of petals to create a larger flower. · With 1 strand of a contrast color of B, embroider another Lazy Daisy petal inside each of the petals.
Assembly Wrap one embroidered Rectangle around one foam block. Sew cast on and bound off ends together. Sew one embroidered Square to each uncovered end of Block. Repeat for remaining Blocks. Weave in ends.
