GAUGE:
13 sc + 16 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm)
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
HAT Ch 37. Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 36 sc. Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Working in back loops only, sc in each sc across. Repeat Row 2 until piece measures about 19 in. (48.5 cm) from beginning. Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread tail through ends of rows along one long edge and pull to gather for top of Hat. Knot securely.
FINISHING Seam short sides of piece together to make Hat. Weave in ends.

This is soft and comfortable in Wool-Ease Rose Heather. I made mine to 16 inches and it fits my 22.5 inch head nicely. I had 11 stitches in 4 inches, so that might explain the different size/fit. Shake out the cloth before measuring it, but don't stretch it while measuring.
