Finished Circumference About 19 in. (48.5 cm), will stretch to fit a range of sizes.
CORRECTIONS: (applied Feb 20, 2013)HAT
With smaller needles, cast on 100 sts. Divide sts onto 4 needles, with 25 sts on each needle. Place marker for beg of rnd.
Note: Placing the same number of sts onto each needle means that when you work Rnd 1, on first needle, you will k2, p2 across to the last st, then k the last st; on the second needle k1, then continue the K2, p2 Rib.
In other words, the K2, p2 rib will not finish with a p2 at the end of each needle. This is fine! The pattern will still work perfectly.
If you prefer to have the pattern end with a p2 at the end of every needle, divide your sts as follows:
24 sts on first needle; 28 sts on second needle; 24 sts on third needle; and 24 sts on fourth needle.
The above is only a summary of corrections; the corrected pattern text is below (if free) or shipped upon completion of order (if purchased)

GAUGE:
18 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) with larger needles.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:

Adult's Simple Knit Hat Reviewed by Martha Griep on 2013-04-09
I love this simple hat pattern. I made about 8 of them this winter. I wanted to try to make it a little more feminine. So I changed the ribbing on the last one. A friend had told me about the German twisted cast on and I wanted to try that. I found a video of how to do the cast on at newstitchaday.com and while I was there I found the Twisted Cable Rib Stitch. Very easy. The ribbing pattern is done in a 4 row repeat.
